Peggy
Shaughnessy

Peggy Shaughnessy is a lead practitioner in the emerging field of emotional and social competencies and is renowned for her innovative programs and publications regarding Aboriginal populations. Ms. Shaughnessy was educated at Trent University and holds a Master of Arts in Canadian Studies and Native Studies. She is now a Research Associate at the Psychology Department and the Emotion and Health Laboratory at Trent University.
Ms. Shaughnessy has developed scientifically successful programs to assist Aboriginal offenders while incarcerated and in their reintegration process. She is the Founder and President of
Whitepath Consulting & Counselling Services, which opened in March 2002.
Whitepath Consulting successfully reintegrates offenders into the community, acting as a centre for the Aboriginal community
at large. She communicates her message of connecting the disconnected in lectures and workshops to clients that include Correctional Service Canada, universities, colleges and secondary schools across Canada. As well, she has given presentations at federal, provincial and territorial government conferences. Ms. Shaughnessy is the author of numerous articles in refereed journals.
As a direct result of her work in penitentiaries, Ms. Shaughnessy developed

Aboriginal-specific model to teach practitioners of all health and wellness programs the crucial importance of emotional health. Her goal is to have
theRedPath
community-focused model mirrored in rural and urban Aboriginal communities across Canada. Ms. Shaughnessy’s model can be used for substance abuse programs, family violence programs, suicide prevention, and health and wellness (emotion management) programs as well as in community reintegration programs.
Ms. Shaughnessy’s lifetime commitment to caring and helping people is demonstrated through her active involvement in her family and community. Her commitment has also extended to communities across Canada. In 1997, she was instrumental in helping set up an experiential learning school in Pangnirtung, Baffin Island, Nunavut for university students, and in 2004 trained frontline workers in The Pas, Manitoba to use
theRedPath
program under the sponsorship of the Manitoba government.

James
D. A. Parker

Dr.
James D. A. Parker is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the
Department of Psychology at Trent University (Ontario, Canada). He
also holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in Emotion and Health at
the same institution. Dr. Parker earned his Ph.D. in psychology
from York University (Ontario) in 1991, and from 1991 to 1994 was a
research fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of
Toronto. Dr. Parker has published over 100 articles and chapters,
mostly in the areas of emotion and health. He co-developed the
Coping Inventory for Successful Situations (‘CISS’;
published in 1990), a widely used measure of basic coping styles.
More recently, he co-developed the youth version of the BarOn Emotional
Quotient Inventory (‘EQ-i:
YV’, published in 2000), the first reliable and valid measure
of emotional intelligence for children and adolescents. He is
co-author of the recent book ‘Disorders
of Affect Regulation: Alexithymia in Medical and Psychiatric Illness’,
(1997) from Cambridge University Press and co-editor (with Reuven
Bar-On) of ‘The
Handbook of Emotional Intelligence’, published in 2000 by
Jossey-Bass.
Dr.
Parker brings his research expertise in the areas of emotion and health
to Whitepath Consulting. He provides a solid empirical foundation in
wellness and, through a truly collaborative partnership, is excited to
blend his wealth of psychological knowledge with theRedPath model
to assist in the healing of Aboriginal communities.

Lenard
Hall

Lenard
Hall’s invaluable office management skills, coupled with his wealth of
experience as a Lead Facilitator and Management Trainer, have made him
instrumental to the success of Whitepath Consulting and Counselling
Services.
Joining
the team in 2002, he has lived and worked with at-risk populations for
17 years. Lenard has assisted in fine-tuning Ms. Shaughnessy’s
programs, has contributed to the design of training manuals and
translating workbooks and other materials to electronic format. Mr. Hall
designs PowerPoint presentations, sources funding, oversees all
proposals and represents Whitepath at social planning meetings.
Mr.
Hall is a recognized trainer in leadership dynamics, time management,
conflict resolution, meeting and subcommittee management, group
dynamics, effective speaking and communication and parliamentary
procedures.

L'Espérance

Steve
L’Espérance is a multimedia and new technology specialist, trained at
Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario. He is recipient of
Kodak’s 2003 Bright Ideas Photo Contest. His efforts on the
Great Canadian Parks website were recognized at the Baddeck
International New Media Awards (Best Educational/Resource website of
2000) as well as through Gemini nominations in 1999 and 2000.
Mr.
L’Espérance’s commitment to staying on the leading edge of
technology is demonstrated through ownership and operation of PeterboroughJams.ca,
a web portal for Canada’s music industry providing internet radio and
streaming video for the most novice user.
His
career experience includes IT support, corporate image development,
documenting business requirements and performing data analysis for Legal
Aid Ontario.
Mr.
L’Espérance brings his design and technology skills to Whitepath. He assists
with corporate image development and communications including on-line,
print and video media. He also brings his experience in design to the
development and implementation of corporate training for professional
services and software development companies.
